What owners wrote
9-2-98 transmission failed. Replaced original transmission with a used model with 7000 miles on it. On 9-9-98 this transmission failed and the car caught fire, resulting in a total loss. An independant inspector determined that the fire was caused by a defective transmission shift module.
The consumer stated she was able to shift gears with the key completely out of the ignition with the vehicle turned off . A recall was issued for this defect, however the vehicle identification number was outside of the remedy scope. Please provide additional information.
