Tl*the contact owns a 2007 nissan altima. While driving 10 MPH the contact smelled smoke and observed it coming out of the center console. The vehicle was filled with smoke; however, the contact was able to safely get out of the vehicle and call the fire department. The fire damaged the interior of the vehicle. The fire department stated that the cause of the fire was electrical. There were no injuries. The contact has not called the manufacturer at this time. The failure mileage was unknown.

January 2010 Fire

My new nissan altima 2.5 sl had a dead battery 4 times within 20 months of ownership. The vehicle was returned to nissan factory service three times (one time the service department was closed) - but the problem never resolved. The problem has been widely reported on the internet and is not the battery itself, but related to failures in the vehicle electrical system and "smart key" electronics. Nissan refuses to acknowledge or repair the problem.
