Accelerator sticking problem - like to say the first 6 months after buying a new 2005 honda civic the exact same thing happened numerous times. Problem then seemed to resolve itself. I still own the car and it has not again occurred since. Solution was to apply brake hard, put in neutral and kick the pedal. This was not a mat problem since this car has two grommets holding the mat in place.
