On wednesday november 5, at approximately 5:40am, the 2009 azera came up to an intersection. Failure to stop caused the driver to run the stop sign. The car became lodged underneath a semi tractor trailer, and was dragged several feet before the semi stopped. The driver of the car was killed instantly. He did not have a medical issue that caused the accident. The driver drove this road everyday to work. They were aware of the stop sign, and had a spotless driving record.
The vehicle was parked in our driveway and had not been driven for about 12 hours. We were told by the fire department that the engine smoldered for hours and broke through the fire barrier into the car and ignited the inside.
The first time, I was passing another vehicle and pressed the accelerator and the engine began to race and speed up. The pedal was stuck down. It was not caught on the rug and when I tried lifting with my foot it was not stuck down. The second time, the accelerator was pushed down, and the engine began to speed up and race. I had to put the car in neutral but the engine continued to race. I had to keep my food on the brake but the car as before continued to accelerate..
Defective engine cover gasket leaked oil on alternator and destroyed it. Same condition as recent hyundai vera cruz recall. I believe engines are the same but azera not included in recall
