What owners wrote
A few complaints as filed, shortened and with personal details removed. The first ones are among the most serious reports for this model year; the rest are typical.
My daughter was a restrained driver on a highway ---in rush hour traffic, moving about 55MPH. The car in front of her braked suddenly and when my daughter pushed on the brake it went to the floor and she had no brakes. She clipped that car rear end and swerved right'hitting a second car as she got to the shoulder. She scrapped along the metal rail for a distance and then went off the road in to a gully and hit a pole and an dirt embankment. Both air bags deployed.
Ltr re his defective 2002 lincoln ls, the axle broke and the wheel and the hub came off the car, would like someone to look into this defect. While driving on the garden state parkway, the left front wheel came off and the consumer was pulled into the concrete median strip. Consumer had enough experience not to hit the brake, slight acceleration and he got control of the vehicle. It took a half of mile to get the vehicle across 3 lanes of busy traffic and onto the shoulder.
Dt: the caller's vehicle was involved in an accident while traveling 25 MPH when another vehicle pulled out in front attempting to turn left. The caller's vehicle hit the front corner of the other vehicle. Upon impact, both driver and passenger air bags did not deploy. The vehicle was totaled. Caller's wife sustained injuries. A police report was taken. Manufacturer said someone will contact the caller in two business days. Dealer has not been contacted yet.
Tl*the contact owns a 2002 lincoln ls. While driving at any speed, the air bag indicator light flashed 6 to 7 times before remaining illuminated. When the vehicle was restarted, the air bag light did not immediately illuminate. After a short period of driving, the indicator light begins to flash again and eventually remains illuminated. The vehicle has been diagnosed twice by the dealer, but the failures persist. The current mileage was 51,285 and failure mileage was 50,958.
In researching whether or not a recall currently existed, I located the following information from another consumer who seem to have experienced the same problems: the vehicle emissions system indicator light appeared on display. The vehicle hesitates (jerks slightly) at speeds up to 60 MPH, cars also kills randomly while the car is in motion.
