Brakes were malfunctioning and did not work. I was traveling South of Hwy 99 in the middle lane and noticed the vehicles in front of me were slowing down and braking. I attempted to applied the brakes but it was not working. I swerved to the left to avoid a collision with the vehicles in front of me. As I swerved to the left onto the fast lane, I hit the vehicle in that lane. Myself, along with the 3 passengers were transported to the hospital.

During the first failure, while the contact’s husband was driving, the vehicle lost power. The vehicle was driven to a gas station and then restarted. The vehicle was then taken to the residence.
