I leased a vehicle from BMW encinitas that had previously been used by them as a loaner vehicle on 3/24/11. On 4/20/11, I parked the vehicle at my home after a short 20 minute freeway drive and within 20-30 minutes, flames were shooting out the top of the hood and over the tops of the front tires. The flames were blue and burned so hot water was unable to douse them. The fire burned for approx 15 more minutes before the fire dept was able to put it out.
Tl* the contact owned a 2011 BMW 328. While driving at an unknown speed, there was a burning odor entering the vehicle. The contact noticed a spark followed by a flame underneath the dashboard. The contact pulled over and exited the vehicle. A police and fire report were filed. The fire department extinguished the fire. The fire department was unable to diagnose how the fire originated. The vehicle was destroyed. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 50,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 BMW 328I. The contact stated that while sitting idle at a traffic stop, he noticed that the vehicle would slowly surge forward autonomously. On one occasion, while driving into a garage, the vehicle abnormally accelerated and crashed into a pillar. The contact was not injured. The vehicle was inspected by the dealer who was unable to duplicate or diagnose the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 5. The VIN was not available.
Getting "passenger restraint system" error for no apparent reason at all. I'm afraid the airbags won't deploy in case of accident.
