Tl*the contact owns a 2007 BMW x5 mini cooper. The contact was driving approximately 25 MPH on normal road conditions with the cruise control activated. There was an unintended increase in acceleration. The vehicle failed to slow down when pressure was applied to the brake pedal. The gear was shifted into the "neutral" position. The vehicle crashed into a traffic signal pole. The air bag system failed to deploy with the level of impact. The driver sustained severe injuries. The police was called to the scene.
I was exiting a parking garage and hit a column, the airbag went off. I was transported to the hospital. I sustained a c1 neck fracture and an abrasion on my forehead. I was in a neck collar for 3 months with very limited activity and no driving. My car was declared a total loss. I am presently going to physical therapy 2-3 times per week for my neck.
Original equipment alloy wheel developed a full thickness crack on the support spoke. This was under routine driving conditions and not found after an accident. Found on routine owner inspection. Car has 49,000 miles. Suspect this was a manufacturing defect given normal local and highway driving conditions. The alloy wheel was replaced with BMW replacement at my expense. Not covered under warranty. Photos and original wheel available.
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 BMW x5. Upon starting the vehicle, the instrument panel displayed a low coolant error message. The contact stated that the coolant reservoir was replenished and the error message was no longer displayed on the instrument panel; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was confirmed that there was a coolant leak and the water pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure.
