My new ss was modified with hand controls. I was going into a turn at 50MPH and my knee got caught behind the hand controls not allowing me to push my brakes in going around a turn. I hit the curb taking out two trees then hitting a third tree to bring the vehicle to a stop. The front end of my car is now gone with the radiator pushed into the engine. The vehicle is totaled and no air bags deployed at all.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 chevrolet ss. The contact stated that the power steering failed and caused a crash. The contact's vehicle struck the bumper of another vehicle. The air bags failed to deploy. There were no injuries and a police report was not filed. The dealer diagnosed that the steering wheel assembly needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 25,000.
The trim in the chevrolet ss 2014 is highly reflective and during periods of high sun the driver is simply blinded by the trim around GPS unit, around shifter, and even the little circle around the start button is enough to blind a driver. This happened on multiple occasions and was strong enough for me to try and cover it or block it while driving or by putting a hand in front of my face. Wearing sun glasses does not help unless they cover the full 180 degrees as the reflection hits from the side.
The electric power steering failed whilst driving at 35MPH on a straight road. The steering went heavy and simultaneously a message came up in the drivers information screen stating "service power steering, drive with care". After pulling off the road and turning off/restarting the vehicle, the steering assistance had returned and the message had gone. Three hours later, as I had just parked the car and was about to turn off the ignition, the same happened again.
Random failure of power steering system. While driving, the car will chime and the message "service power steering, drive with care" is displayed. At this point the car loses all power steering function and is extremely difficult to steer. This has happened on both city streets and major highways. This is an extremely dangerous system failure.
