The right steering knuckle on the consumer's 2005 chrysler sebring broke causing loss of steering control. Consequently the consumer had an accident and the vehicle was totaled. A recall was issued in dec 2004 after the consumer had the accident.
Dt*: the contact stated while driving 60 MPH the left front wheel fractured and broke away from the vehicle. It crashed into a guard rail and proceeded to travel over the guard rail. Neither of the front airbags deployed. The fuel tank was punctured during the process ,and the vehicle erupted in flames. It became fully engulfed in flames and burned to the ground. The fire department and the state police were at the scene of the accident and provided written reports.
Tl* the contact owns 2005 chrysler sebring. The contact stated that the horn malfunctioned and would sound independently with the vehicle on or off. This failure recurred for three months. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who stated that the air bag module or clock spring needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the defect. The approximate failure mileage was 29,000.
When you push the horn it will not turn off. I pulled the fuse out so that I would not have to deal with the horn having a mind of its own. My fix was to purchase a switch about $4-5 at the auto store and rewire the horn in on my own. It looks a little tacky, I put the switch under the turn signal, but it is far better than being in traffic or at a light and having the horn go off for 5 minutes. Straight. I never took it in but I am guessing it is an issue with the horn switch which is under the airbag.
