Dashboard cracking in multiple locations, cracks increase in length and are running up the cowling over the instrument panel and coming from the passenger airbag housing

September 2015

The plastic dashboard structure of the front dash (ABS plastic) is cracking and separating spontaneously. Large crack developed in from of the driver and is expanding with multiple offshoots causing the dash structure to split in two and is in danger of fragmenting. Crack occurred while vehicle was stationary and is growing each day.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 GMC yukon denali. While attempting to accelerate from a stop, the vehicle began to hesitate and lose power, but the engine continued to rev. The failure occurred randomly without warning. The vehicle was at the dealer for diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The VIN was unknown. The failure mileage was approximately 33,000. Updated 05/11/16

I purchased my 2012 GMC yukon denali AWD new. Approximately 3 years ago the dashboard developed a crack at the top left corner of the front passenger airbag. The crack has slowly been getting worse and is now becoming elevated and I now have fears for proper operation of the front passenger airbag due to this. I researched and discovered that this has been an ongoing problem with 2007 - 2013 GMC yukons, chevrolet tahoes, chevrolet suburbans, and cadillac escalades.

The dashboard over the instrument panel is cracking and spreading. It seems as though the crack is getting larger by the day.
