What owners wrote

The vehicle tends to lag or stall during normal driving times. If you accelerate then let off the gas, then try to accelerate again, the car does not respond. It is like there is a dead pedal. It takes roughly a second for the car to respond, which isn't that long until you consider at normal in-town speeds, you can go almost 100 feet in a second. Just enough time to get plowed in to!

Reported at 6,000 miles, November 2007

Red "bolt" idiot light appeared, motor could not go above 45MPH, no more than 16mpg. Pulled over immediately and tried to find a dealer or service facility. Vehicle could make it the 5 miles back to apartment. Searching the web, the jeep/mbenz "swirl motor" apparently has a design defect. The oil vents back into the air, which causes sludge and tar, which then closes the swirl motor vents causing it to stop. With only 66k miles, here are the spectrum of complaints in north america and the uk.
