What owners wrote
My daughter was driving my jeep patriot today. She noticed some smoke in the cabin & pulled over to the shoulder & got out just in time. By the time the fire dept got there, 10 min or so, the car was completely engulfed & it burned to the ground. It was a 2007 with 12,000 mi on it & was in perfect condition with no problems at all up until today. She said she smelled a little electrical smoke ( like burning plastic)just before & thought it was coming from the side of the road.
Much as we discovered with other complaints regarding the fuel/propulsion system on carcomplaints.com the issue is that when the vehicle is fueled up even if you stop when the gas dispenser clicks off the car inevitably stalls and shuts off just a few minutes after the car is started and in motion. The stalling can occur when you get out into traffic, on highway, city street which can be a very dangerous situation.
