My daughter was driving my jeep patriot today. She noticed some smoke in the cabin & pulled over to the shoulder & got out just in time. By the time the fire dept got there, 10 min or so, the car was completely engulfed & it burned to the ground. It was a 2007 with 12,000 mi on it & was in perfect condition with no problems at all up until today. She said she smelled a little electrical smoke ( like burning plastic)just before & thought it was coming from the side of the road.
The jeep patriot has an issue with the ABS ECU programing. When the ABS wheel speed sensor faults the ECU detects it as a wheel speed change. Activating the ABS brakes. Unlike every other car when the sensor is faulting it should just simply turn off the ABS system and display a fault code. This is dangerous and almost caused me an accident when the brakes started activating on their own.
