What owners wrote
A few complaints as filed, shortened and with personal details removed. The first ones are among the most serious reports for this model year; the rest are typical.
On a FM road, doing approximately 60 MPH. Frontal impact with a guard rail, went over rail, hit tree. Air bags did not deploy. Driver hit steering wheel upon impact with guardrail, hit windshield with head when vehicle struck tree. (not wearing seat belt at time of impact.) vehicle has been declared a total loss. We believe the issue is, the airbag sensors.
Tl* the contact owned a 2007 nissan xterra. While driving approximately 45 MPH, the contact attempted to merge into another lane and crashed into the rear of another vehicle. The air bags did not deploy. A police report was filed. The contact sustained injuries that required medical attention. The contact's vehicle was totaled and was towed away by the insurance company. The dealer and the manufacturer were not contacted. The failure mileage was 151,000.
Vehicle had total failure on highway. Nissan dealer says it is from transmission contamination. TCM totally failed, no power.
Started smelling a burning smell. Noticed a fluid leaking under the car. Dealership said transmission needed to be replaced but didn't give any further details. Topped off transmission fluid since it was low. 30 miles later, while doing 65 MPH on the freeway in traffic, the car suddenly slipped out of gear and slowed drastically almost causing the car behind me to rear end me. I slowed and it popped back into gear. I got it off the freeway and was then able to barely get it into a parking lot.
Saturday morning, april 18, while exiting a parking lot in my wifes 2007 xterra, the vehicle inexplicably accelerated in dramatic fashion momentarily out of control. I rode the brakes, as the car continued forward some 50 60 ft in a rapid bucking motion until I was able to put the transmission in neutral and turn off the engine. I waited a couple of minutes, restarted, and the engine resumed its intense RPM. Again I turned off the engine, waited perhaps 10 minutes, and restarted with normal performance.
