What owners wrote
A few complaints as filed, shortened and with personal details removed. The first ones are among the most serious reports for this model year; the rest are typical.
My cousin was involved in a crash on may 4th of 1997, in which him and the driver of a 1994 toyota pick were ejected and killed. I took pictures of the truck just a few days after the wreck. The police report and the newspaper reported that neither were wearing seat belts, however according to the photos taking of the truck I see that the passenger seat belt was completely tore out of the side wall of the truck where the brass hex bolt holds it to the inside wall of the cab.
Police report stated: unit fell off the right shoulder of the roadway. Unit overcorrected, crossed both lanes of traffic and ran off the left shoulder of the roadway. The angle of embarkment caused unit to overturn. Unit overturned and struck a tree.
Driving at speed of 15MPH, vehicle went into open throttle position, speed 35MPH, lost control went inbankment impact 12:00 and unbody damages.
Tl* the contact owns a 1994 toyota pickup. The contact stated that the frame rusted causing the vehicle to pull and shake when he accelerated which he noticed while driving at approximately 70 MPH. The vehicle had not been repaired at the time of the complaint. The failure mileage was approximately 240,000. The current mileage was approximately 245,000
Rear frame rotted from inside out on 1994 toyota pickup. Called toyota and they stated the recall only went back to 1995. Just put new brakes, new clutch, new engine, etc into vehicle. Wish I knew the frame was rotted prior to doing all that. I am hoping toyota will extend the recall back a year as it is clear it is the same problem as those involved in the buy back.
