What owners wrote
A few complaints as filed, shortened and with personal details removed. The first ones are among the most serious reports for this model year; the rest are typical.
When applying the ABS brakes in a sudden stop at speeds of 20MPH, the brakes failed to stop the vehicle, causing a collision.
Seat belt failed 3 times in two small impact crashes to release, resulting in severe chest/neck and shoulder injuries. Driver had to be manually removed.
Anti lock brakes continually fail resulting in several vehicle accidents. The faulty bendix-10 ABS system failed prior to recall notice 96v-099 resulting in an accident which resulted in the consumer becoming disabled. Nlm 4-24-01
The dealership refused to perform the hydraulic anti-skid system recall (96v099000) because the vehicle passed a pressure test. The brakes failed twice which resulted in extended stopping distance. The ABS and service brakes warning light came on at the time of the 2nd brake failure. *nlm
My dodge caravan has a lifetime warranty due to a recall on the ABS brake system that was originally installed. Turns out the original owners brought the van in for this recall, but the part was not replaced. So years later it gave out. The van has 36k miles, so if it was replaced when the previous owners brought it in everything would be fine.
