What owners wrote
Fuel filter failure resulted in high pressure fuel leak that flooded the engine compartment with diesel fuel. Approximately 10 to 12 gallons pumped from tank at high pressure, and sprayed all over engine and engine compartment. Problem was not noticed after picking vehicle up from routine service. Noticed pungent odor which intensified as I was driving home. Dealer stated they did not service fuel filter. When vehicle was picked to be returned to the dealer, diesel fuel came spilling off the top of the engine.
Rear fuel tank strap that holds the fuel tank in position failed. In 2003 ford had a recall on this truck to install safety straps around the fuel tank in case there was a failure of the main straps. When the rear strap failed the safety strap failed and the only thing holding the tank in the truck was the fuel line. The tank was about 3/4 full if it had separated all together it would have been a disaster and probably a fire.
