What owners wrote

The supports for the rear liftgate/hatchback on my honda odyssey minivan failed causing the full weight of the rear gate to strike the head of our 11-year old child. The failure of the rear-gate occurred occasionally at first causing head injuries to happen more frequently to others unexpectant of the sudden failures. Now, it fails everytime the gate or rear hatch back is used.

Reported at 41,000 miles, December 2009 Injury

My 2006 honda odyssey (with 45000 miles) rear lift gate supporting strut(s) failed and the the gate became so heavy. Luckily the failure happened when the gate was closed. If the failure occurs when the gate is open, someone may be injured. However, I did bump my head when I put a post to hold the gate while removing items from the vehicle. I accidentally hit the post and the gate fell and hit my head. The key point is that honda should replace the struts with a heavier duty parts so no one will get hurt.
