What owners wrote
On feburary 1, 2003, my daughter was driving a 2000 jeep wrangler at about 35 MPH on a slight up-grade. She left about 20' of straight skid prior to a rear-end collision. Slight deformation to the bumper, a small dent and broken turn signal lens on right fender. She was wearing the seat belt and shoulder strap, yet sustained a broken nose and broken cheek bone from hitting the steering wheel. No airbags deployed. The shoulder strap did not prevent forward motion.
All four seat belt release mechanisms get stuck. I have had to assist passengers with releasing the seat belt after they attempted it themselves. To release the belts, there must be sufficient slack in the belt to allow an angle between the tongue and receptacle opposite the angle naturally achieved when in use. This problem was very noticeable but not as bad when the vehicle was new. No one has been injured in my vehicle, but when passengers need assistance removing a safety belt, that is a potential safety issue.
