What owners wrote

A few complaints as filed, shortened and with personal details removed. The first ones are among the most serious reports for this model year; the rest are typical.

Volvo v70--- we removed the handholds from above the driver and front seat passenger. My wife, ellen, suffered a concussion when her head struck the handhold above her as she was driving and the car was hit in the front. No airbags deployed. I found myself bumping my head against these handholds even while driving. These handholds obviously intrude into the headspace of the automobile. I am surprised that volvo would use such iron-hard handholds without padding or without a collapsing or folding mechanism.

November 2004 CrashInjury

Tl* the contact owns a 2004 volvo v70 cross country. He could not release his six year old child from the passenger rear seat belt. The seat belt wrapped around the childs' abdomen so tightly that it bruised his abdomen. He had to cut the seat belt off of the child. The police and fire department were present, but no report was filed. He contacted the dealer, and a technician concluded that the seat belt could be replaced at an expense of $590.00. The failure and current mileages were 50,000.

Reported at 50,000 miles, October 2009 Injury

On sunday, 24 january 2009, the heating element in the driver's seat in our 2004 volvo v70 somehow shorted and/or otherwise overheated, causing the seat to begin to smolder and smoke and burned small holes in the side of the leather seat cover. After the heating element was turned off, the materials in the seat appear to have been sufficiently fire retardant to keep the seat from a full-scale conflagration.

Tl* the contact owns a 2004 volvo v70. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the check engine lamp illuminated and the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was taken to a local repair shop, who diagnosed that the fuel sensor was defective and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, but offered no assistance because the vehicle was not included in the recall under NHTSA campaign id number 07v226000 (engine and engine cooling). The vehicle was not repaired.

Seat beat and airbag failure in vehicle during accident while moving. This vehicle had a small tap accident but airbag warning light continues to appear but airbag didn't deploy..
