I was in the process of entering a highway from a driveway. I hit the gas pedal and the car took off uncontrollably across the highway, across lanes of traffic, went up an embankment and then back down where the car shut off. I had not driven the car since the accident, but when I picked up the vehicle at the dealership where the convertible roof had been worked on, I noticed the electronic throttle indicator light was "on". This may the reason it accelerated uncontrollably.
Just like everyone else's complaint on the 2008 sebring. The electronic throttle control light comes on. The cars rpms rev high but the car won't even be going fast. The car will speed up on its own and jump while sitting at a red light. Then once the light comes on and you cut the car off if you try to crank it back up it went cut on. This is ridiculous. I've almost wrecked quite a few times. Nobody knows what's wrong and when you take it to the dealership they don't know either and they are all rude.

The vehicle was taken in for diagnostic testing. The mechanic stated that the vehicle could not be diagnosed because the battery continued to drain. The manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 97,000.
