What owners wrote

(1) filled fuel tanks with gas (2) fuel began pushing out of the rear filler cap after a few minutes of driving. Notified by another driver and pulled over. Opened the fuel door cover and saw gas spilling out around the cap. Took the cap off and fuel blew out at me. Myself and my daughter had gasoline all over us. (3) took it to the dealer and was informed it was a known defect and the recalled part had been replaced with redesigned fuel pump in 2001. New redesign is now doing the same thing.

Reported at 56,000 miles, May 2007 Injury

Dt*: the contact stated there was a recall on the vehicle, NHTSA campaign id # 93v125000 concerning the fuel system. This was completed accordingly as indicated in the recall. However, the recall did not correct the problem. The check valve within the fuel pump assembly causes unused fuel from one tank to recirculate to the secondary tank which results in fuel spillage from the filler neck. Although the vehicle was seen by an independent repair shop, no repairs were made.
