I had an accident in a rented 2007 ford escape in which the airbag deployed. It exhausted hot gasses near my wrists, sufficient to melt the fleece I was wearing and give me second degree burns on both arms. Either the airbag malfunctioned in doing so, or there is a design flaw in venting the gases near the position where the driver's hands and arms are most likely to be.
My wife & I were visiting a friends house with my wife driving. She put the van into reverse to leave with her foot on the brake. It suddenly took off at a high rate of speed & would not stop even with both. Feet on the brake. We shot out the driveway at high speed & continued down the roadway until my wife lost control & crashed into a ditch; the only thing that stopped the van was hitting a large rock. This of course caused damage to the passenger side rear quarter panel.
My freestyle sel vehicle's (6/2006 prod. Date) wrench light came on which is supposed to be for transmission problems. Car hesitates on shifting, especially downhill. In the morning a slight lurch is experienced when pulling off before car is warmed sufficiently. Car has 40k miles and has a 100k warranty so the dealer assessed the problem at a throttle body and put in a part order. The part needed is a non-water cooled one which is impossible to find until is goes into manufacture in december.
The car stalls out and I get the wrench on my dashboard. The car will restart after a few minutes and runs fine at that point. This apparently means that there is a powertrain fault detected. When the diagnostics were ran they pulled the code u0401 and the dealer told me that there were alot of freestyles and mercury's with this code and that it would be $280.00 to diagnose the problem.
