Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep liberty. The contact stated while driving approximately 65 MPH the driver of the vehicle may have fallen asleep at the wheel. When the driver suddenly woke up and attempted to avoid crashing into a tree the vehicle rolled over. The driver's side seat belt fractured and failed to restrain them. The driver of the vehicle did not survive the crash. The manufacturer was made made aware of the failure. The vehicle was destroyed. The VIN was not available.
Dt*: the contact stated while traveling 70 MPH, a smell of burnt plastic was noticed. The vehicle pulled over, and flames erupted from under the passenger glove compartment. The contact extinguished the fire with a fire extinguisher, and a police report was taken. The driver sustained blisters on his right hand while putting the fire out. The contact believed the fire could have been electrical since the fire started from the air conditioning blower area.
Gas tank overflows when fueling because it doesn't sense when its full. I have to stop fueling before I think its full so this doesn't happen, so I am unable to fill tank completely. Spills all over my clothes, on the ground and down the side of my vehicle. Also I smell an electrical burning smell when I'm driving my vehicle sometimes which is very scary.
Jeep would not start -had lights, radio, horn etc. But it would not turn over at all. Towed to dealer. Tech performed diagnosis and found the problem - steering column had to be replaced. Total cost $798.00. I was told that the steering column and ignition switch were problem issues in this make and model but no recall was in place to repair. Ignition switch recall replace in 2006 jeep liberty manual transmission but not in automatic transmission
