What owners wrote

While applying the accelerator pedal, the vehicle failed to accelerate. Within seconds of parking the vehicle a fire occurred. The vehicle displayed a dangerously slow acceleration as if the transmission was in the wrong gear when trying to accelerate the vehicle. There was also poor fuel economy (11.6 to 12.1 mpg instead of the normal 19-26 mpg).

Reported at 2,000 miles, May 2004 Fire

There is a loud, annoying and dangerous rattling sound coming from the motor. Based on what seems like hundreds of thousands of complaints and many opinions from very experienced mechanics, it is the timing chain - the whole thing- from the chain, tensioners and everything associated with the entire timing chain mechanism. This is absurdly annoying, extremely dangerous and outrageously labor intensive and expensive to fix.
