Automatic braking failure: Another vehicle slammed into my vehicle as I was moving at a slow pace. That other vehicle pushed the front of my vehicle into a dumpster in a parking lot. The automatic braking should have engaged and stopped the car so it wouldn't have crashed into the dumpster. It is unlikely the vehicle is available for inspection as it was towed to a salvage yard. My safety and that of others was put at risk. The problem could not be reproduced - the vehicle was severely damaged and undrivable.
I was backing into my garage in reverse gear when there was a sudden power surge and the car accelerated rapidly backwards (without me pushing the gas pedal), which led to a crash that caused substantial damage to the car. The car was out of my control, with it accelerating without reason, so something failed on the car. I do not know what component failed, only that there was a sudden and rapid acceleration in reverse. There are no warning lights and the car was taken for an estimate and damages exceed $10,000.
The contact owns a 2024 Volvo XC60. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the transmission intermittently failed to shift once the vehicle was shut off after it was already on for a long period of time. No warning light was illuminated however, the infotainment screen and the dashboard darkened. The failure occurred on several different occasions. The vehicle was taken to a dealer to get a diagnosis; the dealer stated that the failure cause was unidentifiable. The vehicle was not repaired.
