Three days before the accident, I experienced an unusual issue with the vehicle. When I pressed the brake pedal to start the vehicle, I heard an unusual sound that I had not normally heard when starting the car. It was heard from the outside of my car and as well as I felt it on brakes as I pressed it. My neighbor was present and advised me to turn the vehicle off and restart it. After I turned the vehicle off and restarted it, the sound was no longer present.

I am reporting a serious safety incident involving the powered rear liftgate of my 2026 Nissan Rogue Platinum. On Tuesday, September 1, 2026, at approximately 9 AM, I was helping my daughter unload her cosmetology case at the Sherman Oaks Galleria. The rear liftgate was open. We were both standing behind the vehicle, facing away from it toward her cosmetology case (which had become unlatched so we were fixing it). No one pressed a button on the liftgate, the key fob, or inside the vehicle to initiate closure.
