The ford f250 was turning left on a two way undivided highway. It was struck in the driver's side by a passing semi-truck/trailer. The collision was just behind the driver's seat and back toward the box of the pick-up. It spun the pick-up into the ditch where it rolled once. The front seat passenger was ejected and found lying on the ground by the driver's side of the vehicle with the legs and feet propped up against the vehicle.
Approximately 3 days ago, automatic transmission slipped briefly, occurred again on 2/22/10. Self-corrected both times. Vehicle was hauling enclosed cargo trailer containing 3 atv's. Parked vehicle and shut off ignition, vehicle was in park. Approximately 3 minutes later noticed smoke from under hood. Fire spread too rapidly for effective use of fire extinguisher. Engine compartment was fully involved upon fire dept arrival, with radiant heat and smoke damage to the passenger compartment.
On 1/3/09 while driving down highway at night, headlights turned off. A few seconds later the lights came back on. After driving about 25 - 30 miles the lights did the same thing. It was -50 degrees outside at the time. I have not had any problems since except the vehicle burned up on 1/21/09 for unknown reason.
Took vehicle to ford dealership for routine maintenance and to diagnose loose steering issue at highway speed. Vehicle was diagnosed with failed track bar ball joints, track bar bushings and excessive side to side movement. Front axle dust seals were failed and would need to be replaced. Steering gear box was determined to be failing and need to be replaced. Parts for the gear box were on national back order with 120 day time frame for delivery.
