What owners wrote
A few complaints as filed, shortened and with personal details removed. The first ones are among the most serious reports for this model year; the rest are typical.
I rear ended a truck at about 35-40 MPH and neither air bag deployed. My vehicle is at planet ford here in texas and they told me last week they was going to investigate why they did not deploy. Today they told me that it has to be a direct hit and with $9,000.00 and the whole front folding on impact I consider that a direct hit. They totaled the vehicle I hit.
After hitting black ice, the vehicle slid to the left across the road, hit a tree head on and the front air bags did not deploy. (the consumer no longer owns the vehicle)
We were rear ended while sitting at a redlight. The impact was hard enough to launch the 6000 lb expedition 20-30 feet into the intersection. 2 out of 5 seat belts opened up and those 2 occupants went flying around in the car. Thank god it was not a head on collision. I never retested or checked the seatbelts and the vehicle was totaled and sent to a salvage yard in nc by travelers insurance. Injuries were whip lash, strained necks and cervical compression and concussions.
Tl* the contact owns a 2002 ford expedition. The contact stated that while inspecting the vehicle, he noticed that the fuel tank straps were fraying and coming apart, but the failure was not due to corrosion. An authorized dealer was notified and they stated that the 2002 ford expedition was not included in the recall associated with NHTSA campaign id number 11v385000 (fuel system, gasoline: storage: tank assembly: mounting). The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure and the current mileages were 70,328.
During inspection it was noticed that the upper and lower rear control arms were rusted through and unsafe. Had them replaced including the rusted through shocks. Hood and roof paint shows serious paint peeling and bubbling.
