While driving at 40 MPH the air bag deployed without warning, causing an accident. Dealer has not been contacted.
After the air bags deployed they caught on fire and had 6 to 8 inch flames coming out and up toward my face. The service manager contacted ford and I was told there was no fault brcause they deployed and only my hand got burned when I put it out but the air bag and the fire were right in front of me , I was told the airbag catching on fire was an acceptable risk and not a defect. Acceptable by whose standard? Being burnt is better than being dead but being alive and not burnt and not dead is what I expected.
Driver and passenger airbags deployed after a hard braking, the truck was not in motion at the time of deployment at a stop light. Both airbags caught on fire. Driver was pinned by the airbag causing foot to press on accelerator. Loc and blunt trauma to abdominal area, abrasions/burns on abdomen and chest.
My vehicle was parked for several days on a parking lot next to my residence and I was notified by employees from a nearby business my vehicle was on fire. Smoke was observed coming out from under the hood, however no flames were observed. The origin of the smoke was determined to be from the cruise control switch located on the front of the brake master cylinder. The heat from the fire had melted the cruise control switch and wiring and had also melted the plastic brake fluid reservoir.
Ford f150 xl 2000. 11/28/03 coil #2 had to be replaced. 07/08/03 coil #4 had to be replaced. 03/06/03 coil #3 had to be replaced. On 04/05/04 my wife bessie was driving and the truck stalled. The steering wheel locked up and she had no control over the vehicle. Luckily, she did not get into an accident. She came to a complete stop, put the truck in park, turned the ignition off, then turned the ignition key and the vehicle started up. My wife was very upset. I contacted chapman ford rep.
